You’re definitely in the right place if you’re looking for a four-legged friend with an easygoing temperament. Companion Retrievers is a small, family-owned breeder of an exceptional line of English Labrador puppies that we hand-raise with love and a lot of attention on our countryside farm. We breed all three AKC-recognized colors of Labrador Retrievers, including chocolate, black, and yellow, which can range from creamy white to dark yellow.
English Labradors are such an extraordinary breed of dogs because they have so many highly desired traits. They’re gentle, social, affectionate, playful, loyal, and eager to please. With their natural tendency to learn fast and listen well, they make wonderful pets, hunters, retrievers, protectors, service/assistance dogs, and show dogs. Who we are
Hi there! We’re Elmer and Julie Braegelmann, owners and operators of Companion Retrievers. Our 100-acre farm and kennel is located just west of Richmond, MN. Along with our wonderful English Labs, we also raise grass-fed beef cows and chickens, goats, and we have two friendly horses named Joker and Bunny that we enjoy riding.
We keep our kennel operation on the smaller side so that we can give our breeding dogs and their litters plenty of individual care. Our focus on ethical, quality (not quantity) dog breeding practices results in remarkable English Labrador puppies that we are proud to offer community members, families, sportsmen and women, and people who have disabilities or physical challenges. And we just love the look on people's faces when they pick up their puppy!

About Julie
Julie is a retired Special Ed teacher who worked with the Rocori School District in Cold Spring, MN. Passionate about helping people live fulfilling, independent lives to the best of their abilities, her desire to raise quality English Labs was a perfect opportunity to provide service dogs to people with physical challenges.

About Elmer
Gearing up to retire soon from Liberty Paper in Becker, MN, Elmer is looking forward to having more time for training hunting dogs. Instinctive retrievers and water lovers, English Labs make great hunting companions. And as a sportsman himself, Elmer knows how valuable a well-trained hunting partner can be.

About Chance
Our passion for this particular dog breed was started by “Chance,” our sweet black Lab, who we got as a pup and had for 14 years. Chance was loving and dedicated to his family. He and Julie were inseparable – he was always close by her side helping with jobs on the farm until his homegoing in July 2021.
